Subsidy for school material costs

In Yokohama City, there are systems in place which provide a subsidy covering school material costs for children attending elementary school, junior high school or other compulsory education schools.
■ Regarding the Subsidies for School Expenses System
This subsidy is available to households with children who attend municipal elementary schools or municipal junior high schools in Yokohama City, and who are in receipt of the child rearing allowance or who are experiencing financial difficulties, such as having an overall household income which is below the threshold.The subsidy is intended to cover the cost of such things as school materials, school trips, and school lunches.
To apply, please include the necessary documents with the Application for Subsidies for School Expenses form included with the Notification of Subsidies for School Expenses System, which will be distributed at your child's school, and submit it to your child's school.
■ Regarding the Subsidies for School Expenses for Students at Private Schools etc. System
This subsidy is available to households resident in Yokohama City with children who attend private or national/ prefectural (including those outside Yokohama City) elementary schools and junior high schools in Yokohama City,or with children of foreign nationality who attend an international school in Yokohama City (elementary school or junior high school level) and who are in receipt of the child rearing allowance or who are experiencing financial difficulties which are making it difficult for the family to keep sending their child to that school, such as having an overall household income which is below the threshold.The scholarship is intended to cover the cost of such things as school materials, school trips, and school lunches.
To apply, please include the necessary documents with the application form included with the notification distributed at your child's school around July, and submit it to your child's school.
■ Regarding the Subsidies for School Expenses for Students studying in Classes for Students with Special Needs System
Households with children who attend classes for students with special needs at municipal elementary schools or municipal junior high schools in Yokohama City may be eligible to receive a subsidy to reduce their financial burden. The subsidy is intended to cover the cost of such things as school materials, school trips, and school lunches, but the content of the subsidy varies depending on the household's income.
To apply, please read the notification distributed in the special needs class at your child's school, and submit the necessary documents to your child's school.

Support fund for studying at high school, etc.

This subsidy scheme provides a support fund to students studying at high school etc. to help with the cost of tuition fees.
Receipt of this fund helps to reduce the burden of tuition fees. To receive the fund, you need to meet certain criteria. Also, you need to apply, so please submit the necessary documents through your child's school.
Please inquire at your child's school to find out more about the eligibility criteria and what documents you need to submit.

This scholarship scheme is available to high school students, and pays out 5,000 yen a month (60,000 yen a year). Students do not need to pay back the money they are awarded.
You need to apply to receive this scholarship. High school students whose guardians live in Yokohama City are eligible for the scholarship. The scholarship is awarded on the condition that students have an average score of 3.50 or more in a 5-level evaluation scale in all subjects they took in the academic year prior to the year of application. You cannot apply if you do not meet this condition.
Applications are only open once a year, and must be submitted by the stipulated date. Please note that there are only a limited number of scholarships available, so not everyone who applies will be chosen. When awarding scholarships, priority will be given to those students from less economically advantaged background.
Also, please note that if you wish to apply, you will need to have the high school that your child attends prepare the documents for recommendation. Please consult with your child's high school before applying.

If you have an address in Yokohama City and your children are enrolled in a health insurance scheme, you can receive a subsidy under this system to cover part of the cost of medical treatment for your children according to their age in the event they have to seek medical treatment due to an illness or injury. This subsidy does not cover costs which are not covered under health insurance, such as hospital beds which incur an additional charge. Eligible patients will be issued with a Medical Subsidy Certificate for Children.
For more information, please consult with the Health Insurance and Pension Division of the ward office in the ward in which you live.

Show your membership card at participating stores displaying a sticker to receive a range of services to help those raising children, from a little extra consideration to the use of safe and convenient facilities and equipment, discounts, and other benefits.
