Health checkups for infants（乳幼児健康診査）

Health checkups are held at ward health and welfare centers for children aged 4 months, 1 year 6 months and 3 years. Households with eligible children will receive a letter from their ward health and welfare center. Please make sure to take your child along to one of these checkups, as they provide an important opportunity for you to check on your child's growth and development, and to consult with someone about matters relating to child rearing. During the checkup, you will be asked questions about how your child is on a daily basis. As such, the person who mainly looks after the child throughout the day should be the one to take the child along to the checkup. Please consult with your ward office in advance if you require the assistance of an interpreter.

In addition, your child can also receive a total of 3 health checkups until the age of 12 months (under 13 months) at designated medical institutions within Yokohama City. You will find a set of tickets for these checkups in your Mother and Child Health Handbook. There is no charge for these health checkups and child-rearing support consultations. However, you will be charged for any treatment etc. your child may need.

If your child has any eyesight or hearing abnormalities, he or she may suffer from weak eyesight or late speech development.
Eyesight and hearing tests are administered every year at nursery schools, kindergartens, etc. for children aged 3 years, so please make sure your child undergoes these tests.
