Taxes are money used to support our daily lives.
There are many different types of taxes. In this month’s feature, we take a look at municipal taxes.
Q. In my second year of working, I noticed that residential tax was deducted from my salary. What exactly is residential tax?
A. Residential tax is municipal taxes and prefectural tax.
The main types of municipal tax are as follows.

Individual municipal tax
For those who are resident in Yokohama City as of January 1, this tax is levied on the previous year’s income, together with prefectural residents’ tax.
Property tax
This tax is levied on fixed assets (land, houses, etc.) owned in the city as of January 1.
Light motor vehicles tax (keijidosha-zei)
This tax is levied on light motor vehicles, motorized bicycles, and small two-wheeled motor vehicles as of April 1.

Did you know that elderly people aged 65 years or older account for about 70% of deaths due to house fires? While gas stoves are the most common cause of fires, many fires also start in kitchen appliances and other sources, making it necessary to be especially careful during the colder months of the year.
Small changes in lifestyle can reduce the risk of fires (use the checklist to see what you need to do to make your home safer)
