We look forward to seeing you there!
 Date and times: November 13 (Sun.), 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
 Place: Zou-no-Hana Park

Zone A
In conjunction with the Yokohama Otomatsuri 2022, this zone will feature a stage with music performed by groups active mainly in Naka Ward, as well as a variety of food and beverage booths, courtesy mainly of stores from Naka Ward’s shopping streets.

Zone B
In addition to workshops to familiarize visitors with the SDGs, this zone will feature a collection of booths by companies and organizations active in Naka Ward. There will also be vehicle exhibits and sports experiences by professional sports teams.

Over the past few years, many community groups in Naka Ward have had to refrain from their activities due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Nevertheless, these groups have persisted with their endeavors and, like Naka Ward, continue to thrive. ➁ Naka Ward’s fire corps, protecting those close to you!

Members of the fire corps protect the community from disasters such as fires, windstorms, and floods. They have regular jobs, are college students and do housework, just like the rest of us. However, in the event of an emergency, they serve as disaster prevention leaders in their communities.
Naka Ward is a vibrant area with many businesses and commercial facilities, as well as a multicultural community with the largest population of non-Japanese residents among Yokohama’s 18 wards. Fire corps are groups of people living and working in Naka Ward who work together to protect our community and its residents. So why not join us?

About the fire corps

Q: What is the difference between firefighters and members of the fire corps?
A: Firefighters are local public servants who are engaged in disaster rescue and first-aid activities as their profession, while members of the fire corps are part-time special local public servants who respond to disasters and educate the community about disaster prevention while having a separate day job.
Q: Do I need special qualifications or experience to join the fire corps?
A: No special qualifications or experience are required. Anyone who lives, works, or attends school in the city, is 18 years of age or older, and is healthy and motivated is welcome to join.
Non-Japanese residents are also welcome (subject to certain conditions).

Activities of the fire corps

・In the event of a fire, windstorm, flood, earthquake, or other disaster, the fire corps cooperates with the fire department to carry out firefighting activities and play the role of community disaster prevention leaders!
・The fire corps also contributes to the safety and security of the local community by keeping watch at events held in the ward and conducting educational activities to promote CPR!

Comments from fire corps members

“Why not join the fire corps with us? There is surely a place where you can play an active role. You can be a hero of the community! Non-Japanese residents are more than welcome!”

・Is the training tough?
→ Everyone is kind to me and I enjoy it because I learn a lot.
・Is it difficult to balance your firefighting activities with your family and work?
→ I would like to continue to do what I can, little by little, while taking care of my family and work.
・In what ways do you find it rewarding?
→ I am always helped by the people around me, so I am happy to be able to give back to everyone, even if only a little, through the activities of the fire corps.
