We Want to Hear Your Opinions! – Draft of the 3rd Naka Ward Action Plan for Multicultural Coexistence

Naka Ward, Yokohama City, known as a historic port district, has long been home to many foreign residents – now making up over 10% of the population. To help create a safe and welcoming community where everyone can live with peace of mind, regardless of nationality or background, Naka Ward established its first Action Plan for Multicultural Coexistence in 2017.
We have now prepared a draft of the 3rd Action Plan, covering fiscal years 2026 to 2030. We welcome your comments and suggestions on the draft.

Digital Stamp Rally for Naka Ward Public Facilities

Naka Ward 100th Anniversary Catchphrase Contest

As we approach the 100th anniversary, we want to take this opportunity to reflect on the future,

"Connecting the Past With the Future." We are inviting submissions of catchphrases from everyone 18 and under!


【Eligibility】

Residents of Naka Ward aged 18 and under as of April 1, 2026 (including those who attend school or work in the ward)

【Submission Period】October 1 (Wed) – November 20 (Thu)

【Catchphrase Details】

20 characters or less. Please express, in words that touch the heart, a message that encourages a new step forward toward Naka Ward’s 100th anniversary and beyond into the future.

・ Copyright and usage rights of award-winning works will belong to the City of Yokohama.

Recruiting Participants for “Y-Nurse” (Yokohama Disaster Support Nurse)

Y-Nurses are licensed nurses who support emergency medical care at evacuation shelters during major disasters such as earthquakes. As part of the Medical Relief Team under Yokohama’s official disaster response plan, Y-Nurses collaborate and work alongside doctors, pharmacists, and city staff to assist primarily with minor injuries and basic care.


【Eligibility】

Licensed public health nurses, midwives, nurses, or assistant nurses who live or work in Yokohama and are able to assist within the ward during a disaster


【How to Register】

Submit a complete application form (available at your Ward Office or on the website) to the Health and Welfare Division of the Ward Office

Some functions, including the insurance certificate with the “My Number” ID card, will become unavailableRenew your digital certificate before it expires!

If the digital certificate stored in the IC chip of your “My Number” ID card expires, you will no longer be able to: obtain official certificates at convenience stores, log in to My Number Portal, and use your “My Number” ID card as a health insurance card. To avoid any inconvenience, please complete the renewal process before the expiration date.

The digital certificate is valid until the fifth birthday after the card is issued.

*For minors, the “My Number” ID card itself is valid for five years, requiring card renewal. For adults, the card remains valid until their tenth birthday after issuance.

How to Renew

(1)Receive a notification

   A notification letter will be sent to your home approximately three months before the expiration date.

(2)Make a reservation

Using the reservation ID provided in the notification, make an appointment for the renewal process via the Yokohama City website or by phone.

*Residents of Izumi, Kanazawa, Nishi, and Midori Wards do not need a reservation if completing the renewal at the Ward Office.

Visit one of the four “My Number” ID Card Special Centers in the ward or your local Ward Office to complete the renewal process.

*The available Special Centers vary by residential ward, so please check in advance.

Have You Had Your Cancer Screening Yet?

It is said that one in two people will develop cancer in their lifetime. Even if you have no symptoms, regular screenings can lead to early detection and treatment. Yokohama offers screenings for six types of cancer: lung, breast, stomach, colon, prostate, and cervical cancer. Please refer to the website for more information.

〇Free Cancer Screening for Age 65

People aged 65 receive a free cancer screening coupon.

【Available Screenings】Yokohama City Cancer Screenings(lung, breast, stomach, colon, prostate, and cervical cancer)

【Eligibility】Residents born between April 2, 1958, and April 1, 1959


〇Free Advanced Screening for Ages 70 and over(From January 2025)

Yokohama residents aged 70 and over who need advanced testing after a free cancer screening will receive financial assistance for the exam.

【Available Screenings】Yokohama City Cancer Screenings(lung, breast, stomach, colon, cervical cancer)

*Prostate exams are excluded

【Eligibility】Residents born before April 1, 1955


〇Check for HPV, the Virus that Causes Cervical Cancer (From January 2025)

【Personal Cost】2,000 yen(Households exempt from city taxes are exempt)

  • Genetic counseling:70% Financial Support(Up to 10,000 yen)
  • Genetic testing:70% Financial Support(Up to 30,000 yen)

【Eligibility】Eligible participants are individuals aged 18–69 whose parents, children, or siblings have hereditary breast and ovarian cancer syndrome (HBOC) and have undergone counseling or testing after April 1, 2024

Join us for a special event celebrating the canals of Yokohama – including cruises through Yokohama Port and the Ooka, Nakamura, and Horikawa Rivers, and a vibrant Canal Parade featuring pleasure boats, SUPs, and sea kayaks! Enjoy local food markets, live music, and waterfront festivities at venues such as Maita Park, Hinodecho, and more. Come discover the charms of Naka Ward’s riverside spaces!

Producers of Yokohama-grown vegetables will sell freshly harvested produce directly, and welfare workshops will also sell handmade miscellaneous goods.

□At the October, December 2025, and February 2026 markets, used cooking oil from households will be collected!

Naka Ward Photo Contest 2025 “Nakaku ii ne”

Submit your personal view of Naka Ward—something only you know, something that shows the unique charm of your town—along with a short story or episode. This contest is about rediscovering the beauty of NakaWard from everyday life, something you won’t find on a tourist map. We look forward to many submissions!
