7 months until GREEN×EXPO! Let's start environmentally-friendly living!

There are only 7 months remaining until International Horticultural Expo 2027 (GREEN×EXPO)! Naka Ward is aiming for a decarbonized society, which is also a concept of GREEN×EXPO. We are taking actions toward that goal and implementing other environmentally-friendly initiatives alongside children and community members.

Initiatives for children who will shape the future
Nursery school flower planting event
Twice a year, in spring and fall, alongside the Naka Public Works Office, we hold an event for growing flowers from seeds in milk carton planters, and the flowers are then planted in the park.
The children are excited to see what kind of flowers bloom, and they learn a lot about flowers and soil.

Elementary school Past initiatives!
Nikoniko Nurie
We shared information and raised awareness by running an interactive booth where children could color large pictures for GREEN×EXPO and the 100th anniversary of the Naka Ward government. These were a part of events held during last year's Naka Ward community festival, Hello Yokohama, and the Naka NAKA Kan × Kyo Festival.

Raw garbage composting
We ran an initiative to convert cooking waste and leftover food from school lunches into compost by putting it into compost bags (bags where microbes decompose and ferment organic material).
Some of the compost was provided to care plazas for use in flower beds.

De-carbonization as a community!
Discarded oil for the future of the sky
Used cooking oil can be used for aircraft fuel (SAF)!
Did you know there is an initiative to convert used cooking oil from homes and stores into aircraft fuel? Naka Ward is collecting used cooking oil as a part of a community environmental initiative.

Sustainable aviation fuel (SAF)
Used cooking oil from homes and businesses can be used as sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) with the latest technology.
Compared to conventional fuel, it reduces carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by about 80%.

Installation of collection site run by Kitagawa Elementary School children and the café & restaurant, Kuranosuke
Last year, students from Kitagawa Elementary class 6-1
collected used cooking oil with the help of community businesses.

As a result, a collection box was installed in November of last year at the entrance to Kuranosuke, a cafe/restaurant operated by the Kura Group, which is a member of the Hongocho Shoeikai.
They are continuing to carry out the will of the children by keeping the community collection site open and managing the collection box.

Things to check before calling an ambulance

— Correct emergency actions protect lives —
Last year, the number of ambulance dispatches in Yokohama decreased for the first time in several years.
However, as society ages, the frequent need for ambulances is expected to continue.
You may encounter situations where you are unsure whether you should call an ambulance for a sudden sickness, heat stroke, etc. We will explain who you should talk to and the specific symptoms that warrant an immediate call to 119 in order to protect lives in an emergency.

Calling 119 during an emergency
Call 119 immediately if the following symptoms suddenly occur
▪ Loss of consciousness or mental cloudiness
▪ Major injury with excessive bleeding or burns over a large area of the body
▪ Sudden, intense headache or chest pain that is the strongest the person has ever experienced
▪ Strong physical shock such as a traffic accident or fall from a high place
▪ Does not wake up even after convulsions stop
