Kanazawa Timber Pier started its operation in 1974 to meet the sudden increase of the import of timber, however, the pier stopped handling raw timber in 1985. Currently, it is mainly used for construction materials such as wooden products, scrap metal, sand and gravel, etc. Building materials are also handled. As for disaster prevention, the quay wall was reinforced to be earthquake resistant in March, 2002, and it is used as the base for urgent supplies in times of emergency.
