Seal registration(印鑑登録)

What is seal registration?

This is the process in which you register the fact that your seal (inkan) really is your seal. When you buy land, buildings, cars, etc., you may in some cases need to use a registered seal.Upon registration, you will be issued with a seal registration certificate (card).

How to register your seal

You can register your seal at the Family Registry Division counter of the ward office of the ward in which you currently live.

Things you need to bring

Resident card or Special Permanent Resident Card
The seal you wish to register

Seals that you can register

Seals which fit within a square with sides measuring at least 8 mm and no more than 25 mm

*Seals bearing a nickname etc. or those which do not have an outer frame cannot be registered. For more details, please inquire at the Family Registry Division counter of the ward office of the ward in which you currently live.

Seal Registration Certificate

A Seal Registration Certificate is a document used to prove that your seal belongs to you. You can obtain one of these at your ward office or administrative service corner.It is also possible to apply online (only for those who have an Individual Number card).
