Yokohama Wood Straw Project

Last updated date:2021/11/8

The Yokohama SDGs Design Center, jointly operated by Yokohama and four private firms, is promoting the use of wooden straws produced through the “Yokohama Wood Straw Project.” These straws are made of timber sourced from “forest thinning” in Doshi Water Conservation Forest and manufactured by people with disabilities in Yokohama. This project aims to raise awareness among consumers to reduce marine plastic waste, achieve de-carbonization, and build an inclusive society. The Center promotes the use of these straws in local restaurants and hotels and works to expand the initiative to other cities in the future.

The center also presents hands-on workshops (for a fee) across the city, where children can experience making wooden straws. If interested, please feel free to contact the center directly.
