About the Yokohama General Plan (Long Term Vision)

The Yokohama General Plan (Long Term Vision) sets out Yokohama City's vision for the future, one which is shared among all citizens. In order to achieve this vision, it presents a series of fundamental policies for all individuals, organizations, businesses, local government, and other concerned parties who form the bedrock of Yokohama City to share issues and work towards their resolution.
The plan was drawn up in anticipation of the first quarter of the 21st century (approximately two decades from the present day, until around 2025), a period in which Yokohama City's population is expected to go into decline. In anticipation of this, the Plan presents a vision which Yokohama should aspire to as a city, as well as fundamental directions for measures etc. needed to achieve this.
The City of Yokohama draws up its administrative plans based on the principles set out in the Yokohama General Plan (Long Term Vision). Designated as the most significant among all of the City of Yokohama's many plans, it presents the guidelines by which "Yokohama City will make full use of its functions as one of Japan's major international port cities," a principle described in the Act on Construction of Yokohama as International Port City.
