Activities (FY2024)

The EU-Japan Subnational Climate Action Workshop was held in Pacifico Yokohama between 29 and 30 May to discuss decarbonization-related policies. After the event, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Delegation of the European Union visited the Hokubu Sludge Treatment Plant and saw our city's sludge treatment method.

YWWB has been implementing the aforementioned project since April 2023.
The project aims to improve the capacity of Perumda Tirtanadi to operate its water supply business through dispatching personnel from YWWB and providing technical assistance and suggestions for improvement in the fields of water distribution management and water treatment. In addition, businesses and technologies from YWBAmember companies have been introduced to help improving the water supply business.
Three YWBA member companies presented their businesses and technologies at Perumda Tirtanadi in North Sumatra.

This seminar was jointly held with the Y-PORT Workshop organized by the International Affairs Bureau. At the same workshop, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) gave a presentation on the role of the ADB and business collaboration.
Moreover, member companies and the City of Yokohama introduced local needs in the Philippines and Vietnam, and a discussion was held among member companies on the theme of Possibilities for Corporate Collaboration in ASEAN. The event was attended by 19 participants from 18 companies.

In 2024, YWWB invited executives from Perumda Tirtanadi for training in Japan, and visiting factories and showrooms of two YWBA member companies.

The YWWB has been accepting trainees from Africa for the past several years, a program that started on the occasion of the Fourth Tokyo International Conference on African Development held in Yokohama in May 2008. Since 2009, the YWWB has been hosting JICA program for waterworks engineers from African countries every year, in cooperation with Yokohama Water Co., Ltd. The YWWB has accepted 159 waterworks engineers from 32 African countries as of FY 2024.
In 2024, an in-person program that included the presentation of businesses and technologies of four YWBA member companies and the visit to three YWBA member companies, was held from October to November.

The YWWB set up a Yokohama booth together with three member companies (including one company from Yokohama) at VIETWATER2024, the largest water exhibition in Vietnam, and made a presentation at the technical seminar.
Yokohama’s water and wastewater-related initiatives were introduced through the panel display at the booth and presentations at the technical seminar. Moreover, the promotion of the YWBA in partnership with exhibiting member companies resulted in two contracts　in the water supply field.

The YWWB is currently working on a project to formulate a master plan for the sewerage system in the Cebu metropolitan area (Metro Cebu), which has now began full-scale operations as a technical cooperation project of JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency).
The first Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) meeting was held in Cebu City and was attended by the leaders of the cities and towns that make up the Cebu metropolitan area, and other related parties. At the meeting, the purpose and significance of the project were shared, and each municipality formally expressed its participation and cooperation.

YWC was contracted by JICA for the aforementioned project in February 2022. In cooperation with JICA and Yokohama Water Co., Ltd., YWWB received five waterworks engineers from the Water Supply Agency of Faisalabad (WASA-F) for training.Four YWBA member companies presented their businesses and technologies.

In the presence of the Deputy Minister for Water Supply and Sewerage of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (Japan) and the Director General of Infrastructure Engineering and Management, Ministry of Construction (Vietnam), the minutes of meeting between Yokohama and Dong Thap Province regarding technical cooperation in the sewerage sector were signed. The latter stated that he would like to continue to promote the development of sewerage systems in Dong Thap Province in cooperation with Yokohama and Japanese companies.

As members of the International Group Great tunnel exchange (GTX), the City of Yokohama and the Public Utilities Board (PUB) of Singapore have been continuously engaging in international technical exchanges for the purpose of obtaining useful information such as sharing knowledge on large diameter sewer pipes.
In FY2024, PUB visited Yokohama and held a workshop on flooding and flood countermeasures. In the morning they had a meeting, and in the afternoon they visited the Tsurumi River Multipurpose Retarding Basin and the Nissan Stadium.

We participated with JICA and YWBA member companies in the 22nd African Water and Sanitation Association International Congress & Exhibition (AfWASA ICE) held in Kampala, Uganda. AfWASA ICE is one of the largest international events on water and sanitation in Africa.
Through the presentation at the JICA-sponsored session, we introduced YWWB’s international cooperation activities on water supply, as well as products and initiatives of YWBA member companies in Africa. Moreover, there were PR activities for TICAD 9 at our joint boothwith JICA.

The Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) and New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) gave lectures on their support systems.
In addition, member companies and the City of Yokohama introduced urban issues of the Philippines and Vietnam, and discussions were held among member companies. The event was attended by 34 people from 19 companies.

We set up a joint Yokohama booth with four member companies including two companies from Yokohama at the international exhibition “WATER PHILIPPINES 2025” held in Manila, Philippines, and made a presentation at the technical seminar. One participating company signed a NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement) with a company from Manila.
