This year, as we celebrated the 160th anniversary of the opening of the Port of Yokohama, we opened new cruise ship terminals on the harbor’s Shinko Pier and Daikoku Pier, continuing Yokohama’s rapid rise as a world-class cruise port. On top of furthering our record as a port that never says no to cruise ships calls, we were named as a finalist for Port of the Year Award in this year’s Seatrade Cruise Awards, the most influential awards in the industry. It was a first for Yokohama, and the first for any Asian port. Again, we welcomed a flood of visitors from around and beyond Japan coming to Yokohama for RUGBY WORLD CUP TM JAPAN2019 that wrapped all Japan in emotions and thrills, the Garden Necklace Yokohama flower festival, and the Yokohama Otomatsuri 2019 music festival, with you the people of Yokohama hosting them with your warm generosity and hospitality. There will be something to delight everyone, from children to adults. There will also be illuminations in the plaza’s planted areas, including flower illuminations in the shape of roses and color lighting for the plaza trees. 10-Minute Special Productions During the course of NIGHT SYNC YOKOHAMA there will be dynamic special productions of light and music using color illumination of building walls, searchlight and more, all synchronized between Shinko Central Plaza and eight nearby facilities and lasting approximately 10 minutes each at 18:00, 19:00, 20:00 and 21:00. This never before attempted experimental performance will simultaneously control lights set up at multiple buildings to make the whole district its stage. In addition, during these 10-minute special productions we will deploy Web AR (augmented reality) technology to allow visitors to overlay digital imagery on top of the actual images captured by their smartphone cameras.
