For a pleasant summer vacation

Fumiko Hayashi
Mayor of Yokohama

It is becoming hotter by the day, and summer will arrive in earnest soon. The summer vacation that children have been eagerly awaiting will also be starting within a short time.

Yokohama’s natural settings with abundant greenery afford opportunities for observing creatures and plants, playing beside rivers, fishing, and engaging in other recreation. Its museums of art and natural science have many programs that allow children to paint pictures as they like using paints freely, make sculptures with clay, and have fun doing things with their own hands. They will also surely have fun meeting animals at the zoo and frolicking to their heart’s content in pools.

Held in August, the Dance Dance Dance @ YOKOHAMA 2018 festival unfolding on the streets of our city as its stage also has special dance days permitting the participation of children.

Whether they quietly observe nature’s wonders, take up the challenge of sporting events, or come into contact with the world of culture and art steeped in feeling, they will encounter new things at the places they visit and meet others there. This interaction, in turn, moves the soul with new discoveries, surprises, and joys.

I hope our children will make full use of the long summer vacation to have many experiences that will excite and delight them.

Here’s hoping you have a pleasant summer that will leave many fond memories!

Summer in Yokohama – A Summer to Remember

It is the season when families and friends love to talk about where to go and what to do every day. The chance to have fun doing something you ordinarily cannot experience is one of the nice things about summer in Yokohama. And perhaps you will get a wonderful memory out of it, too!

When going out, make sure to keep replenishing your body’s supply of water and otherwise take care not to have a heat stroke.
