For good physical and mental health in the heart of autumn!

Fumiko Hayashi
Mayor of Yokohama

In this season, people feel like exercising a bit in the autumn breezes, freed from the lingering heat of summer. One suggestion is to exercise some ingenuity and take a little detour from the usual route for walking. I too sometimes change my walking route and thoroughly enjoy the autumn air while making new discoveries every day. I sense the change of the seasons by the cosmos flowers swaying in the refreshing winds and the leaves beginning to turn on trees, and come upon stores I’ve never seen before.

Sometimes it’s fun to walk as far as the Satoyama Garden and see the red and yellow colors of the autumn flowers there, or visit the Yokohama Triennale or other exhibits of art in the city. After your stroll, please stop by a restaurant serving locally produced fare. Our restaurants have a full assortment of foods in season, including fresh Yokohama-grown vegetables and fruits.

This autumn will bring the Yokohama Marathon, an event to which all people in Yokohama are looking forward. It became a full marathon in 2015, and is being held in October beginning this year. I strongly urge you to go and experience it. Some 28,000 participants will be running through the streets of Yokohama under the deep blue autumn sky.

The autumn atmosphere is deepening by the day. Now is the perfect time for getting out into the streets of Yokohama and exercising both mind and body!

Running through Yokohama, changing the world

The Yokohama Marathon is going to be held on October 29. Some 28,000 participants from inside and outside Japan will be running through the streets of Yokohama, assisted by over 7,000 volunteers.

A new event: one-seventh of a full marathon!
In 2015, the Yokohama Marathon was reborn into a full marathon with citizen participation. For this, the third holding, we have newly instituted an event that is one-seventh (6.0278 km) as long as a full marathon, for more casual participation. This event will widen the scope of runners taking part.

Again this year! Water station performances
The Yokohama Marathon will have 18 water stations, among the most of any marathons held in Japan. At each station, volunteers will stage all sorts of performances based on the concept of giving the runners a lift. Spectators are sure to enjoy these performances as well.

Please note that there are places off-limits to spectators along the Bay Shore Route of the Metropolitan Expressway and within Honmoku Pier.
