I am thinking of things such as the reed screens set up in front of the house and the straw mats laid on tatami floors to make lounging around the living room a little more comfortable. In the process of taking steps for more comfort in the particular season, we felt closer to nature. These days, air conditioning has made life easier, but we are apt to forget about learning from nature and applying its lessons. To protect the global environment as well, it is vital for us to be aware of the need for living at harmony with nature in our daily life. Even Yokohama’s children are getting involved, through the Children’s Eco-Katsu Campaign! project. This project includes steps such as rigorous conservation of energy and planting of green curtains, to be taken during summer vacation every year. Last year, the challenges of all sorts of environmental action were taken up by about 40,000 children in 226 of the schools in the city. These steady environment-friendly efforts by each and every one of us will lead to a precious future in which all can have a fulfilling life. Last month, Yokohama welcomed the participants of 50th Asian Development Bank Annual Meeting, who numbered about 5,000 and came from 67 different countries and regions. These persons of prominence in Asia also had high ratings of the approaches being made in Yokohama as the FutureCity of beautiful flowers and greenery. Hazard maps prepared for different types of disaster can help you to ascertain the kind of damage your area of residence could possibly incur. In the 2019 Rugby World Cup, the 9th in the series, International Stadium Yokohama will be the site of the final match, and 11 other stadiums in Japan will host other matches. Looking ahead to the event, a drawing to decide the match-ups for the pool (preliminary) matches was held at the Kyoto State Guest House on May 10.
