  Kanazawa Timber PIER

photo Kanazawa Timber Pier began in 1970 to meet the sudden increase in the import of timber and began operation in 1974. However, the handling of raw timber ceased in 1985.

At present, processed timber and aggregate used to make concrete are the main items handled. Cargo volume 2004 was 1,290,326 tons.

In March 2000, construction of an earthquake-resistant pier began and the pier was completed in March2002.

To cope with the increase of demand for area for marine recreation, the Yokohama Bayside Marina, one of Japan's largest marinas, is being constructed utilizing the water area previously used for floating timber. The Yokohama Bayside Marina has been in partly use since April 1996.
