  Honmoku PIER

map

Honmoku Pier was constructed between 1963 and 1970 with four jetties, A through D, in a comb-like shape. Honmoku Pier has since assumed the role as the Port of Yokohama's core pier accommodating various types of vessels from full-container ships and conventional ships to RO/RO ships.

Included in the total of 25 berths are 3 container berths and 5 multi-purpose berths under the mamagement of the City of Yokohama, and 6 container berths run by the Yokohama Port Development Public Corporation(Y.P.D.C.)

In 2009, cargo handling volume was 29,328,642 tons.

In response to the growing size of container ships, the water area between Jetties B and C was reclaimed, and, with the completion of first-phase project area, a new container terminal began operation in April 1996. The second-phase reclamation started in 1998 to construct a 15m-deep quay (earthquake-resistant) at the tip and container yard was opened in 2005. As soon as the yard was opened, this area was reborn as a container terminal with excellent transshipment capabilities as it is accessible to both small and large ships.

We are now working on redevelopment plans for Jetty D to further enhance this pier's functions.

The Port of Yokohama Symbol Tower and the Honmoku Fishing Jetty, recreational facilities open to the public, are located on Jetty D.
