  Daikoku PIER

photo The construction of Daikoku Pier began with landfill 1971, and the pier was completed in 1990 as the largest island-type pier at the Port of Yokohama.

On the reclaimed area of 322 hectares, 25 berths, which include 3 container berths and 4 multi-purpose berths, were developed in total. Sporting facilities and a fishing jetty were also provided as a part of the environmental project.

There are a large number of private warehouses on this pier, and the total storage area exeeds 1,000,000m2. In August 1996, the Yokohama Cargo Center (Y-CC), one of Japan's largest, most advanced distribution facilities, began its operation to meet the large increase in imports.

The Y-CC building, which stands 634m in length and spreads over 320,000m2, is equipped with the state of the art facilities for storage, handling, processing, delivery etc. It is also designated as the first comprehensive bonded area in eastern Japan. It now plays an important role in strengthening the logistics functions of the Port of Yokohama and in activating the port economy.

Furthermore, in October 2001, the 5th phase of the coastal highway was opened to traffic and thus greatly improved the access to the metropolitan area and the hinterland of the port. The pier will continue to play a major role in distribution at the Port of Yokohama.

Cargo handling volume in 2004 was 19,131,080 tons.
