How to Use the Automatic Ticket Machines

Automatic Ticket Machines

Ordinary tickets, multiple tickets, one-day passes, new PASMO cards,* and travel passes (excluding magnetic passes) can be bought from automatic touch-panel ticket machines. *You can also add credit to your PASMO, view and print out your journey history, and change your auto top-up settings.

Press the button at the bottom left of the screen to switch to English.

How to buy an ordinary ticket

  • Insert cash or your smart card.
    Coins and 1,000, 2,000, 5,000, and 10,000 yen notes are accepted.
  • Touch the "Ordinary ticket" button.

Ticket Machines

  • If purchasing tickets for two or more persons or children, press the "Buy more than one" button.
  • Touch the "Desired value" button.

  • Do not forget to take your ticket(s) and any change.

How to buy multiple tickets

  • Insert cash or your smart card.
    Coins and 1,000, 2,000, 5,000, and 10,000 yen notes are accepted.
  • Touch the "Multiple tickets" button.

  • If buying a child ticket, press the "Child" button.
  • Press the "Ordinary multiple tickets," "Off-peak multiple tickets," or "Weekend/holiday multiple tickets" button depending on the type you want.

  • Do not forget to take your tickets and any change.

How to buy a one-day pass

One-day subway passes and one-day combined bus/subway passes can be purchased as follows.

  • Insert cash or your smart card.
    Coins and 1,000, 2,000, 5,000, and 10,000 yen notes are accepted.

  • Touch the "One-day pass" button.

  • If buying a child ticket, press the "Child" button. (Please note that you cannot buy more than one pass at the same time.)
  • Touch the "Subway" or "Subway/bus" button.

Buying a PASMO card

Blank and named PASMO cards can be purchased as follows.

  • Touch the "PASMO" button.

  • Touch either the "Blank PASMO" or "Named PASMO" button.

Ticket Machines

  • Blank PASMO: You can buy a card without having to register any personal information.
    In this case, anyone can use your card, and no replacement can be issued if lost.
  • Named PASMO: This type of PASMO requires registration of personal information, and can only be used by the person named. A replacement can be issued if lost.
    If you choose to buy a named PASMO、 you will be presented with an "Acceptance of registration of personal information"screen followed by the following input screens. Follow the instructions to input the required information.
    Please note that it may not be possible to issue a replacement if you enter your personal information incorrectly.

  • Touch the button for the value of card that you wish to purchase (from 1,000 yen to 10,000 yen).
    The price of the PASMO includes a 500 yen deposit.

Topping up your PASMO card, viewing and printing your journey history, and changing to a named PASMO card

  • Touch the "PASMO" button.

Topping up

You can top up (add credit to) your smart card up to a total of 20,000 yen.
Touch "charge" (1000 yen, 2000 yen, 3000 yen, 4000 yen, 5000 yen, 10000 yen or "Other amounts (10-yen units)"). When selecting "Other amounts (10-yen units)", you will be prompted to enter your desired amount on the screen.
When charging your card using the whole inserted amount, please touch the "It can be charged by the amount inserted" button after you have inserted the money. When charging your card by specifying a particular amount, please input "charge" after you have inserted the money and touch the "OK" button.

Changing to a named PASMO

Add your personal information to a blank PASMO to change it to a named PASMO.
(Named cards can only be used by the person named, and can be reissued if lost.)

View history

This displays the last 20 transactions on your smart card.

Print history

This prints out the last 20 transactions on your smart card.

Changing your PASMO auto top-up settings

If you have already set up auto top-up for your PASMO card, you can change the settings (extend the validity or change the amount credited) at an automatic ticket machine.
If you want to use the auto top-up service, you first need to apply, by post, to a PASMO-designated credit card company to use this service.

  • Touch the "PASMO" button.

  • Touch "Change auto top-up settings."

  • Insert your PASMO card.

  • If you wish to extend the validity, touch "Extend validity."
    The information registered with the PASMO Center is entered.
  • To specify a minimum balance for your card or change the amount automatically credited, touch "Change top-up amount."

  • Your current settings will be displayed. Touch the "Amount" to be changed.
    Touch "OK" to make your change to the amount take effect.

Setting up auto top-up

You can add auto top-up functionality to an existing named PASMO card.
If you want to use the auto top-up service, you first need to apply, by post, to a PASMO-designated credit card company to use this service.

  • Touch the "PASMO" button.

    The information registered with the PASMO Center is entered.

PASMO travel passes

  • Touch the "Pass" button, then follow the on-screen instructions.
  • Some ticket machines also accept credit cards (Yokohama Transportation's hama-eco card).
    ※New student passes are obtainable from station offices and designated travel pass counters (customer service centers).
    Student passes can be renewed at automatic ticket machines too.
    (However, passes for the start of a new school year have to be bought in the same locations as new passes.)
