Introduction of easy-access buses

Greater accessibility for all

Since 1996, all city buses (except for certain special types) have been equipped with rear-door access ramps for wheelchair users.
The new Transportation Barrier-Free Law requires that all buses be low-floor types by fiscal 2015, and this target will be achieved in Yokohama by fiscal 2013.

Non-step buses

These buses have low floors (around 30 cm off the ground) to make it easier for everyone to board and alight. When the bus is stationary, a height adjustment mechanism lowers the vehicle by a further 10 cm to eliminate differences in floor height by the doors.
