Targeted Industry Programs

This program is open to companies in priority industries desigated by the City of Yokohama that are establishing operations anywhere in Yokohama City.
It offers such companies financial assitance to partially cover the expenses they incur in establishing their Yokohama operations.

Eligibility Non-Yokohama companies* that meet the following conditions:
(Joint-stock company, limited partnership, general partnership, limited private company, joint enterprise or branch office in Japan of a foreign company that does not have its headquarter, branch, sales office, research institute or similar establishment in Yokohama)
  1. Companies engaged in an industry related to IT, biotechnologies, film, convention, environment, medical and welfare, high-tech and design. (Please inquire for the details of each industry)
  2. Companies establishing operations in Yokohama for the first time. These new Yokohama operations must employ at least 5 people or cover a floor area of at least 100sqm that do not have HQ, branch office, sales office and the like that are already in operations in Yokohama.
(* Following types of operations are ineligible to receive this subsidy: factories, warehouses, storage facilities, etc.; stores, restaurants, bars, etc., the purpose of which is the sale of goods or the provision of services; and representative offices.)

"Business Plan Summary" must be submitted to the City of Yokohama before signing a contract to rent premises.
Please be sure to contact Business Development Division before the contract.
Qualifying Cost Rent (includes maintenance charges and consumption tax, but excludes security deposit and key money)
Value of Subsidy An amount equivalent to 3 months' rent (Max. 3 million yen)
(*Please note that if the total value of subsidies applied for exceeds the budget for this program, subsidies to individual companies will be reduced by an amount necessary to keep the program within its budget.
The combined application of this subsidy and other incentive programs by the City of Yokohama is not allowed.)
When and Where
to Apply
Applications are accepted between April and December at the Business Development Division.
Subsidy Payment Schedule Companies that have signed the contract between January and December to rent the premises they will be using and submitted their subsidy application will have their applications reviewed by a screening committee in February of the following year to determine their eligibility.
Companies whose applications have been approved (rejected) will be notified in March by post, after which the subsidy will be transfered into a bank account that they have designated.



Head-Office Function Transfer Special Subsidy
- Special assistance for companies transfering their Head-Office functions to Yokohama! -


This program is open to companies that are already operating in Yokohama (but do not have head-office functions in Yokohama) that decide to move their head-office functions into Yokohama.

Eligibility Companies* that already have operations in Yokohama (branches, offices, sales offices, laboratories, etc.) and meet the following 2 conditions:
(*Joint-stock company, limited partnership, general partnership, limited private company, joint enterprise or branch office in Japan of a foreign company)
  1. Companies must be engaged in an industry related to IT, biotechnology, film, convention, environment, medical and welfare, high-tech abd design.
  2. Companies must be transferring head-office functions with a floor area of at least 100sqm to Yokohama from outside the city.
(*Please note that the following types of operation are ineligible to receive this subsidy: factories, warehouses, storage facilities, etc.; and stores, restaurants, bars, etc., the purpose of which is the sale of goods or the provision of services. In addition, the total floor area of all the company's Yokohama premises after the transfer of head-office functions must exceed the total floor area of all its Yokohama premises before the transfer.)
