Three Yokohama Art Festivals Launched

The “Yokohama Triennale 2011,” an international exhibition of contemporary art, was held from August 6 to November 6 and attracted more than 330,000 visitors, resulting in a huge success.
With this success of the “Yokohama Triennale 2011,” the City of Yokohama has launched three Yokohama Art Festivals as its new symbolic project from next year, to keep up the excitement created by art and cultural events and to energize its economy. Yokohama chooses fine art, dancing, and music as the “three arts” to be promoted arts on the stage of the open city of Yokohama, for they can move people all over the world without using language.
Citizens, artists, NPOs, companies, the City of Yokohama, and others concerned are working together for these festivals with three goals in mind: deliver world-class and original arts and culture; creating a bustling Yokohama making much use of its scenic beauty; and collaboration with citizens and the upbringing of the next generation including children.
The art festivals will further improve Yokohama’s attractive resources to world-class “Only 1 and No. 1” items that you can only find in Yokohama, creating a hive of excitements and further activating Yokohama’s economy.
Yokohama will hold “Dance, Dance, Dance @ Yokohama 2012” featuring dancing. It will hold a festival on the theme of music in 2013. Details of “Dance, Dance, Dance @Yokohama 2012” will be decided around spring in 2012.
