“Performing Arts Meeting in Yokohama(TPAM in Yokohama)2011” Starts from February 16th to 20th.



 YOKOHAMA, JAPAN – Monday, February 14, 2011 – The City of Yokohama is working on “Creative City Yokohama,” a city development initiative making full use of the art and culture. The initiative aims to create and transmit new values and attractions of the city by letting all the residents in Yokohama to exercise their creativeness.
 As part of the Creative City Yokohama initiative, with an aim of “vitalizing the residents through sports, culture and arts,” various events of sports and arts will be held in Yokohama this year, such as Yokohama Women’s Marathon in February, Table-tennis Asian Cup Yokohama in March, Triathlon world championship series in May, and "Yokohama Triennale 2011," a triennial international contemporary art festival in August.
 Furthermore, “Performing Arts Meeting in Yokohama (TPAM in Yokohama)” will be held from February 16 around the coastal area of Yokohama. This is the reborn version of "Tokyo Performing Arts Market (TPAM)" held 14 times over the past years, by changing the name to "Meeting" from "Market" and restarts as “Performing Arts meeting in Yokohama (TPAM in Yokohama)" at international city Yokohama. Previously, TPAM was held in Tokyo, but in touch of the Creative City Yokohama concept, it was decided to move the venue from Tokyo to Yokohama.
 Throughout the entire week, around 6 venues mainly at Yokohama Creative-city Center(YCC) and KANAGAWA ARTS THEATRE (KAAT) which opened in this January, a total of 150 performances, seminars and presentations are going to be performed with the participation of more than 100 of performing arts-related institutes/organizations and artists.

【Highlight of the Programs】
 TPAM in Yokohama is full of programs ranging from various seminars and meetings to real performances that can be participated as a new meeting place for artists, producers, festival directors and others.

(1) TPAM Direction
Venue: KANAGAWA ARTS THEATRE (KAAT)
This is the place of practice and experiments where future presenters are fostered in order to make an attractive program based on a firm concept. Programs that three directors make with artists whom they have encountered through their creative work, will propose fresh ideas toward contemporary performing arts.

(2) TPAM Direction Plus
Venue: Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse Number 1 Hall, KANAGAWA ARTS THEATRE (KAAT), Yokohama Creative-city Center (YCC) A program that explores a possibility of the creative environment of performing arts in Japan, which has been undergoing a significant change, by introducing full performances that theaters or NPOs have produced through long working processes with artists: theatre, dance, international co-production and site-specific work.

(3) International Showcase
Venue: KANAGAWA ARTS THEATRE (KAAT), BankART Studio NYK Dance, theater and interactive performances will be introduced in cooperation with overseas performing arts institutions and organizations from 5 countries such as Finland and France. These are first performances in Japan.
