YOKOHAMA, JAPAN –Wednesday, September 2, 2009 – “CITYNET Yokohama Congress 2009” will start from Monday, September 7 in Yokohama, which takes place once every four years and is organized by CITYNET. The City of Yokohama serves as the President City for CITYNET. The Congress will be held for five days until Friday, September 11, and will be attended by over 250 participants from overseas.
At the Congress, members of CITYNET will discuss various issues such as the environment and disaster prevention, and author Mr. C.W. Nicol will deliver the commemorative speech, entitled “Harmonious Coexistence of Cities, People and Nature”, at the opening session. Other key programs include an “Asia Pacific Urban Forum” inviting Ms. Rei Kikukawa, an actress/special supporter for UNHCR(Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees) and representatives of international organizations, and a “Public Seminar” by Mr. Ken Noguchi, an alpinist. Many citizens have already made prior applications for these sessions.
