YOKOHAMA - Wednesday, 12 September, 2007 - “Yokohama Asian Wave 2007” will be held throughout October in Yokohama, one of the largest international cities in Japan. The event is based on the theme “ASIA,” and celebrates the anniversaries of relations between Japan and Asian countries.
2007 marks the 35th anniversary of the Normalization of Japan-China Relations and celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Japan-India Cultural Agreement. In “Yokohama Asian Wave 2007,” each country will be featured with a Beijing Week and an India Week. Both countries have strong relations with Yokohama exemplified by the historical Chinatown and growing relationships with India, such as the opening of the Global Indian International School in 2008. In particular, many activities celebrating Chinese culture will be held to commemorate the “Memorandum for Yokohama - Beijing Intercity Exchange,” which was concluded last year.
In addition to China and India, participants from other Asian countries such as from Thailand, which will celebrate the 120th anniversary of Japan - Thailand Diplomatic Relations this year, as well as Korea and Singapore will join together to make up 26 section events of “Yokohama Asian Wave 2007.” Events include exhibition booths, food stalls and activities such as “The Police of the World: Concert & Parade.”
