Aoba Disaster Prevention/Preparedness/Mitigation Plan has been revised!

Aoba Disaster Prevention/Preparedness/Mitigation Plan has been revised!

This is a plan to prepare the community on how to mitigate disasters by preparing properly.

1.Do you know how to prepare for a strong earthquake?

In Aoba-ku area, Yokohama city assumes an earthquake with a low 6 intensity on the Japanese earthquake scale, might occur.

When a low 6 earthquake occurs:
-People can hardly stand by themselves.
-Unsecured furniture may move or topple over.

2. When an earthquake occurs, what should you do?

-Protect yourself !
-When the tremor stops, check out the neighborhood and see if your neighbors need assistance.
We must all help each other during emergencies.
-If your house is damaged and you can’t remain there , you should evacuate to the nearby shelter.
You should find out where your shelter is in your area.
You are also recommended to prepare emergency supplies to bring with you to the shelter.

3. Recommendations and requests from Aoba Ward Office

*Protect yourself first!
-Reinforce your house to provide better protection from earthquakes.
-Secure furniture so it is tip-resistant and apply window films to minimize flying glass.
-Have a fire extinguisher on hand
-Store a one-week supply of food and water. (at least a three-day supply is needed)
-Make sure you have a way to contact family members and close friends.
-Participate in the disaster prevention drill in your neighborhood with your family members and get involved in local activities.
Make an effort to get along well with the people in your neighborhood.
During a disaster, cooperate and help each other.
-The elderly, children and disabled or injured people may especially need your assistance.
-At shelters, evacuees must take care of each other

In the event of disasters, keep calm and organize yourself.
-After a tremor stops, make sure the fire is out.
-When you leave the house, make sure to turn off the circuit breaker.
-Don't be misled by false rumors. Get accurate information from Aoba ward office or local media.

The summer season has just started. Let’s avoid food-borne illnesses!

The summer is the most dangerous season for food poisoning. To avoid food-borne illnesses,
please follow the following tips.

1. Don’t eat raw meat! When you cook meat, cook it well.
Meat which is not fully cooked can cause food poisoning.

2. Pay attention to fish parasites!
The number of food poisoning cases caused by Anisakis is increasing in Yokohama.
Anisakis is a parasitic worm that infects herrings, mackerels and inkfish.
If you eat fish infected with Anisakis, you will get food poisoning.
The symptoms are acute gastrointestinal pain.

How to avoid Anisakis food poisoning
1. When you eat raw fish(Sashimi), check freshness of fish at the store and remove the guts as soon as you bring them home.
2. When you cook, carefully, visually inspect the fish meat in good light.
